SAMSARA FOREST
The Aqueous Collection
This image is very personal and symbolic to me.
I captured it just a few day after flying 3,000 miles for my lifelong friend's funeral. I knew him since I was five and he was three. He was my first friend in life and remained one of my closest for the next 32 years. It was devastating to hear of his death.
Being in this moment with the sky transforming and the dead trees reflecting off of the water was powerful. It was meant for me to be there. I felt a strong connection to my friend and reflected on the scene's symbolism of life & death, mysticism & nature, water & reflection, and end of day & new beginnings.
The word "Samsara" has a literal meaning of "a wandering through" – in reference to the passage through many states of existence that is involved in the cycle of death and rebirth. The repeating cycle of birth, life and death as well as one's actions and consequences in the past, present, and future.
